Technology nowadays has many of us sitting for long periods. We are either working at a desk, sitting on our tablets, or playing video games while at home. Most of us know having the correct posture while sitting is extremely important. Without finding the best sitting position, you may encounter back pains, knee pains, and even neck pains. However, even though we know this, a lot of us don’t realize how important it is. Something as simple as keeping your feet flat on the floor while sitting in a chair is very important. And by not doing so can cause serious posture problems that will lead to aches and pains.
First things first, be more aware of your body position when sitting. Pay careful attention to how you place your feet on the floor. For instance, do you sit with your feet flat on the ground, or cross your feet? You should always have your feet flat on the floor. If you notice that you are crossing your feet when sitting, try to be more aware. Doing so will mess up your posture. And another thing to be mindful of is how you sit.
Do you sit up straight or slump over your computer or tablet as you type? Most of us don’t think about how we sit or place our feet as we go about our day. But, it’s important to be mindful of it!
What is the Correct Sitting Position?
There are a few steps to follow for you to find a good sitting position. First, start by sitting at the end of your chair. Then, Roll your shoulders and neck forward into a slouch. Slowly pull your head and shoulder up into a tall sitting position. Next, push your lower back forward, this should accentuate the curves of your spine. Even though it may feel uncomfortable, hold it for a few seconds.
Now, relax and release this position ever so slightly. This is a good sitting position. Then, scoot your bottom back into the chair until you reach the back. Your hips should sit in the bend of the chair.
